Step I: Pick a Preferred Date

We offer anywhere from half a day to a full week of programming for your school!

STEP II: MIX AND MATCH AS MANY CLASSES AS YOU WANT

Discovery Trail
Let’s take a hike!  Led by their Trail Leader, students will explore our 46 wooded acres and participate in a variety of games and activities that will lead them to a clearer understanding of their relationship to the environment.  Our Discovery Trail includes a brief introduction to the camp and its different sites and facilities, discussions about exciting local history, and explorations of local ecology here in the San Bernardino Mountains.

As the students are on the trail, they are introduced to a number of mini-workshops and helpful learning techniques to stop, see, and use their observation skills to check out the endlessly complex system they’re hiking in.  On the trail, students learn about the impact of human activity on our environment and discuss renewable and non-renewable resources along with sustainability.

Students will also learn about outdoor ethics and the concept of Leave No Trace, while being given ample opportunity for real-world application of this exciting philosophy.  Whether it’s creating hands-on experiences, developing deeper perspectives of our relationship to the environment, tasting edible plants, or seeing animals in the wild……the possibilities of discovering your own adventure are endless.
Higher Grounds Challenge Course
Learn to work together as a team to accomplish a variety of challenges on our low elements/group initiative course.  This excellent introduction to ropes elements fosters team-building, cooperation, and communication.  After this required experience, challenge your group on the high ropes course by climbing elements ranging from 30-100 feet in the pines!  All participants wear safety gear and are belayed and instructed by trained professionals.  “Belay on!”
Maps & Compasses
Who says you need a GPS to find your way?  In this class, students are introduced to a variety of different maps, along with the information that each type provides.  Students will learn how to read topographic maps and identify land formations, based on overhead representations.  Students will also be introduced to compasses.  After familiarizing students with the varying parts of the compass, they will be introduced to the concepts of bearings and paces.  These tools will allow students to make their way through our compass course, putting their navigation skills to the test.  So let’s go!  Remember, we can’t get where we’re going, unless we know where we’re coming from.

Standards:
-NGSS-4-ESS2-2: Analyze and interpret data from maps to describe patterns of Earth’s features.
CCC
Cooking, Cleaning, and Candle-making!  In this class, students will take a trip back in time and gain a better understanding of the many responsibilities and chores required for daily living in a lumber camp.   Students will cook doughnuts in a Dutch oven, core and peel apples, learn to make their very own candles, and also learn to do laundry with a wash tub, soap, scrub board and a manual wringer.  It may not be the first time that students have ever done chores, but it will be the first time that students will WANT to.
Survival Skills
During this class, students will learn potentially life-saving skills.  Student’s will explore and discuss camping basics, including the 10 essentials.  At times, survival may require a fire.  Students will learn three different strategies for making a fire, how to start them with flint and steel, and have the opportunity to build their own.  When sleeping out in the woods and a tent is not available, knowing how to build a shelter from your surroundings can come in handy.  Students are taught how to build shelters and must work together with their teammates to make a shelter in a limited amount of time.  In nature, survival isn’t everything, it’s the only thing!
BB Guns
One thing that remains true, almost universally, is that students enjoy shooting stuff, at stuff, with stuff!  No place offers that more adequately than our BB gun range.  Under the watchful eye of our trained staff, students will learn best practices for safety as well as proper shooting technique.  In no time they will be skillfully hitting target after target on our western, saloon-style shooting range.  Instructors will also discuss the importance of firearm safety, the role that rifles played in the history of the American west, and the science behind what makes a BB gun work.  We’ll see you at the range!
LumberJack Games
After a period of difficult labor, the lumberjacks would come together to compete against one another, utilizing the skills they had developed as woodsmen.  In this class, students will engage in a few different games of the famed lumberjacks of the San Bernardino Mountains.  All games are supervised by trained staff, so whether it’s setting a new record on the Balance Log, becoming an immovable statue on Hunker Hawser, or out-pulling oxen on the Oxen Log Pull, students won’t soon forget this unique bonding experience.
Rock Climbing, Zipline, flying squirrel
Rock Climbing.
Get introduced to the fantastic sport of rock-climbing on our 30’ tower. Learn how to use the proper equipment, safety practices, and then summit the peak on belay with our trained instructors.

Flying Squirrel
Do you accept this challenge?  In this element, the participant is tied to the end of a rope by their harness.  When ready, the rest of the team will pull on the other end of the rope, towing the participant up in the air as high as he or she is comfortable.  Once up in the air, the participant enjoys the view while swinging through the air as the rest of the team lowers them to the ground safely.  This element is facilitated by trained professionals.

Zip-line
Let’s play!  Students will climb 35’ up to the take-off platform, before being hooked into our 500’ zip-line by a trained professional.  Wave good-bye as they race faster and faster through our forest canopy, reaching speeds of up to 40mph!  Students are slowed down and received at the landing platform by our highly trained staff.  Once off of the zip-line, don’t be surprised if they are racing back to try it again!
Archery
Humans have used the bow and arrow for thousands of years.  The bow and arrow has been found in many different cultures throughout the world.  In this course, students will learn how the bow and arrow has shaped human history.  Along with history, the science of the bow and arrow cannot be ignored.  Students will explore the potential and kinetic energies present when using a bow and arrow, along with the aerodynamics making the arrow fly true.  Students will experience all of this first-hand as they will be given the opportunity to use a bow and arrow in a safe, controlled environment.  Raise……Aim…….Shoot!

Standards:
-NGSS-MS-PS2-2: Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.
-NGSS-MS-PS3-2: Develop a model to describe that when the arrangement of objects interacting at a distance changes, different amounts of potential energy are stored in the system.

Tomahawks
This dynamic tool was used extensively by Native Americans and explorers in the 1800’s.  Next to the firearm, the Tomahawk was one of the most desired items a merchant could possess.  In this class, students will learn about the history of the Tomahawk and how it was often used in ceremonial declarations of peace (“burying the hatchet”).  Students will also discuss the many uses of the Tomahawk, including building, hunting, and self-defense.  Finally, what good is a Tomahawk class, if we don’t learn how to safely and effectively throw one!?  Our instructors will demonstrate how to throw a Tomahawk, and then allow students an opportunity to do the same on our supervised Tomahawk range.

Camp was amazing! Donny is the best trail leader EVER!!! The food was delicious! The rock climbing was the most self-esteem building activity! It pushed me past what I thought I could do and made me feel like I can make it through anything if I put my mind to it. So, thank you Alpine for giving me self-esteem!

I had the most amazing time at camp. I kinda didn't want to go, but I'm so glad my mom made me. I did a ton of things I'd never done, or have been too scared to even THINK of doing. I learned to trust others, and not just depend on myself for everything.

This week I had an amazing time. I learned so much more about God than I ever knew before. Baloo's sermon on forgiveness helped me start to forgive my dad and climbing trees gave me confidence I never thought I would ever had. Jacob helped us realized teamwork makes everything easier and I became closer to my classmates in a way I never was before. Alpine is awesome!

When I arrived I felt unsure and nervous, but now I feel free and comfortable. Jake was the best trail leader I could ask for and the experiences of the ropes course and zipline were scary but awesome. Best camp ever! All I can say is thank you Alpine. Bless you and your staff

My week at camp started with a very interesting first impression from the camp leaders. We went on a fun hike while learning everyones names then next day we went on the innertubes and on the zipline. We had a fun time the next day doing things on the trees. We also in the end saw everyone's skits which was very entertaining even when the Old Spice and Raisins. Overall it was the best thing ever.

Something I learned this week is that we are all valuable and we really need to take care of ourselves. I had really fun in this camp. I will miss this. I am really amazed because in Korea we don't have this kind at camp or camp trail leaders. I thank you to all. I will never forget about this. this is my best memory in my life.

My week at camp was super fun because I got to experience many new things! Three years ago I would never have imagined that I'd be jumping off trees and ziplining over a forest or letting a snake slither through my hands! The trail leaders made the camp to be amazing and I think that Alpine has brought my friends and I closer. I definitely want to come back during the summer.

I never knew how much the wilderness interacted with us. I loved learning about the plants. This has been one of the best experiences of my life. I never imagined it to be this fun. I think the best part was getting to know the staff. I felt at home the whole time. Everyone was so sweet and helpful, the staff was encouraging too. I felt really good about myself. I love how safe I felt too. When I was up in the trees I felt safer than standing on the ground!

My week at camp was absolutely great. I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. Learning about God's creation gave me more appreciation for it and made me really thankful. Over the course of camp I have definitely learned so much and became really close to my fellow peers. It exceeded my expectations wildly. This was my last year so I will not be coming back and I am very pleased to say that I enjoyed this camp very much.

When we got here we were greeted nicely, which was amazing. Over the week, we did really fun things that helped build our trust in each other. The ropes course was great. Food was spot on! The Trail Leaders are the best, especially Charmander. I really wish I could stay here forever! Thank you staff for making this the best week of my life! I've been to Europe, Canada, and about 15 states in the U.S.A and this is the only place that I've never wanted to leave. Thank you SO MUCH!

I was sort of scared at the beginning when we came to Alpine, but when my friends and Charmander cheered me on it really helped. Ziplining was really fun! Everything was fun! Learning about the plants was interesting. I think Alpine is so cool! Thank you Alpine for treating my class well.
